A Visitor On Europe’s Roads

Flensburg

Sunday was a very long drive north west from Salzwedel to Flensburg which is almost at the Danish border. We have a break in the tour here and are staying with Thies, an old friend of Ray. This also gives us a chance to look around. The gig in Flensburg was in the beautiful St. Johannis church, built in the 12th century and the oldest church in Flensburg.

On a free day, we walked down to the main square and then on to the harbour.

The tables under the blue umbrellas come from a basement cafe which Thies used to run and in which Ray played his first solo concert in Germany.
This is the workshop of the luthier, Antonio Menzel. Antonio has repaired Ray’s cello in the past. Click here to visit his website.

This is the view looking from the head of the fiord towards the Baltic. Ahead and on the left there are moored many sailing boats and some ships.
This model of a Viking longboat sits above the cafe next to a small museum and traditional boat repair workshop.
